Maizey Batch App

Overview

Important: Users must have a valid, authorized Shortcode (a six-digit code in the U-M financial system used to charge to a department/project) and be an owner of an MCommunity group to initiate a project in U-M Maizey even if the Maizey project is associated with an academic course. Note that there are costs associated with using the U-M Maizey Batch App for all users, as the academic course quota does not cover the Batch app type.

With Maizey Batch, you can select a Google Drive folder containing PDFs, provide instructions to guide how the AI interprets each document, define the questions you want answered, and receive the results in a structured format. It turns a task you'd normally do one document at a time, like reading, judging, extracting, or summarizing, into a single consistent pass across an entire folder.

Use it to:

Grade or give feedback on a stack of student assignments against the same rubric
Review compliance or policy documents to flag whether each one includes (or is missing) required language
Extract data from forms, applications, invoices, or reports (e.g., dates, names, dollar amounts) into a clean table
Summarize a set of documents the same way, so they're easier to compare side by side
Screen or triage submissions — grant applications, resumes, survey responses — using the same set of yes/no or short-answer questions

Because every document is evaluated against identical instructions, the results are consistent and easy to sort, filter, and spot-check, turning what might be hours of manual review into a single structured file.

How U-M Maizey Batch App Works

Create or open a U-M Maizey Project.
Create a Batch App.
Define the App’s instructions and questions.
Select a Google Drive folder containing the PDF documents for a run. Note: the Maizey Batch App requires PDF documents.
Review the files and start the run. Maizey applies the same instructions and questions to each supported document.
Download the completed results as a CSV for review or analysis in Google Sheets or another spreadsheet tool.

Create A Batch App in U-M Maizey

Log into U-M Maizey and Create a Project (Your Data Layer)
A project is where you:
- Connect and manage your data sources
- Configure access and permissions
- Maintain your dataset over time
Create the Batch App.
Before you begin, prepare the following:
- Clear description of the tasks to be performed and any context needed for the Batch Prompt.
- The questions or criteria you want applied to every document.
- A Google Drive folder containing only the PDF files you intend to process.
Configure the App, create the Batch Prompt, and add questions to be applied to each document.
Create the App.
Add a Google Drive folder. Note: PDFs are the only file type that can be used with the Batch app.
Run Batch App.
Review and verify results from exported CSV.

Eligibility

U-M faculty, staff, and students (including all three campuses and Michigan Medicine) with a valid, authorized Shortcode are eligible to create a Maizey Batch App in U-M Maizey.

Batch App Billing

The Batch App uses a cost-recovery model and is billed to the valid Shortcode associated with the Maizey project. Cost varies with the number and length of documents, the number and complexity of questions, and the amount of generated output. Review the estimated scope on the pricing page carefully before starting a run. Pricing is subject to change.
