Zoom at U-M

Note: The following service site is for the Zoom videoconferencing service only. If you are looking for information on Zoom Phone or Zoom Rooms, please refer to their respective service sites, as they are managed and supported by different teams at ITS.

U-M Zoom unifies cloud videoconferencing, online meetings, and in-meeting chat messaging. It offers high-quality video, audio, and wireless screen sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS, Android, Zoom Rooms, and H.323/SIP room systems.

U-M Zoom accounts are available to all active faculty, staff, students, and Type-1 sponsored affiliates on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses and Michigan Medicine. For more information on what happens to your U-M Zoom account when you leave the university, refer to Zoom: Accounts for People Who Leave U-M.

Alumni, retirees, and non-UM participants can attend Zoom meetings/webinars without a university account but cannot host U-M Zoom meetings/webinars. Additionally, MCommunity groups and Shared Accounts are not eligible for U-M Zoom. (Sharing a Zoom account with multiple people violates Zoom's terms of service, as well as U-M's agreement with Zoom.)

Important: You must sign in with SSO and enter umich as the domain name. If you enter umich.edu, you will receive an error.

Zoom's "Sign In with SSO" prompt with the word "umich" is entered in the domain field.

Sensitive Data with Zoom

U-M Zoom can be used for certain kinds of sensitive data (including Protected Health Information (PHI)), as detailed in the Sensitive Data Guide. You and the university community have a shared responsibility to use Zoom appropriately with sensitive university data and take the necessary precautions.
