The Organizational Development (OD) team within ITS at the University of Michigan is excited to extend our learning opportunities beyond our department and welcome all who are interested in growing their skills.

What We Do

Organizational Development focuses on strengthening individuals, teams, and organizations through intentional, evidence-based practices. Drawing from fields like psychology, business, and adult learning, we design learning experiences that help participants build practical skills, improve collaboration, and adapt to change. Our sessions emphasize real-world application—equipping participants with tools they can immediately use to grow and succeed in today’s evolving workplace.

ITS Organizational Development Courses

The organizational development unit offers resources, education and support to our ITS partners. We’re excited to deliver a diverse array of professional enhancement, leadership development, and organizational change management.

Our focus is on aligning with individual’s career goals, enhancing organizational capacity for growth and ensuring our programs meet their needs effectively through the breadth of programs and services we provide.

Attendance Policy: Multi-day courses require attendance at all scheduled sessions, as content builds from one day to the next. If you anticipate or experience an absence, notify the course facilitator as soon as possible. Missing sessions, arriving late, or leaving early may impact course completion or credit, and make-up options are limited and not guaranteed.

    In this course we will utlize Straight Talk®, a system of communicating that enables individuals and groups to be more understanding of each other. We'll use our survey results to become more honest and direct in discussing sensitive or complex issues.
  • Crucial Conversations for Accountability

    • Virtual Instructor Led Training
    The course teaches nine powerful skills for resolving performance problems, strengthening trust and reliability, and eliminating inconsistency. Learn to hold anyone accountable, no matter their power, position, or authority. While this course is geared toward those who lead projects, services and/or people, it is available for anyone who wants to learn more about the art of conducing accountability conversations.
  • Crucial Influence

    • Virtual Instructor Led Training
    Crucial Influence is rooted in 50 years of social science research and teaches the renowned Six Sources of Influence model. The course reveals the personal, social, and structural sources that shape behavior and teaches a method for using these sources to influence people and results. This course is geared towards those who will be influential in change initiatives, but open to anyone interested in the material.
  • Giving & Receiving Feedback

    This session will focus on strategies for giving and receiving feedback gracefully and provide a model for delivering constructive feedback to others. Participants will have an opportunity to practice utilizing the model and developing strategic ways to give and receive feedback.
  • Humble Inquiry Primer

    Learn how to build trust and strengthen collaboration through the art of asking thoughtful, open-ended questions. This interactive session supports our One ITS culture by enhancing communication and curiosity in every conversation.
  • Organizational Change Management Application

    This course expands on OCM Essentials, offering an in-depth analysis of the U's 7-Stage Change Model and how to leverage each stage for more effective organizational change.
  • Organizational Change Management Essentials

    This course introduces organizational change management concepts and helps participants develop change agility. They will learn the change process, assess their agility, and understand how to be effective change agents.
  • Organizational Change Management Practice

    This course allows participants to apply skills from OCM Essentials and OCM Application by building change management strategies, receiving peer feedback, and developing implementation plans using real-world scenarios.
  • Radical Candor

    Learn how to apply Radical Candor—a method of giving guidance and feedback that combines caring personally with challenging directly. This session offers a framework to enhance your ability to provide and receive clear, sincere, and kind feedback, making you a better boss and colleague.
