- Cellular on Campus
ITS works with the major cellular carriers to deliver robust coverage and capacity and leverage the latest cellular technologies to serve the U-M community, to deliver a robust and seamless WiFi Calling experience on campus, and to offer design, implementation, and support services for existing and new Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) at the university. ITS also offers small cell coverage enhancement services for key locations and continually evaluates new technologies, spectrum, and solutions, including private cellular infrastructure. - Contact Centers
ITS Contact Center Service provides customized solutions that enable departments, work groups, and other units to manage, track, and respond to a high volume of incoming requests including telephone calls, emails, chats and other modes of communication. The service includes support for the initial design and build of the contact center, as well as ongoing maintenance and support. - Data Centers
ITS data centers host network, compute, storage, and database equipment which support research, teaching, clinical, administrative systems, applications, and data. Campus data center locations managed by ITS include those at the Michigan Academic Computing Center, the Administrative Services Building, the School of Education building, and the Modular Data Center. - Network
ITS network services connect campus to WiFi, university networks, and internet. We also design and maintain the university’s communication backbone, connecting the university to external education and research networks nationally and around the globe.- Fiber Optic Cabling: Fiber optic cable is used to connect devices to campus networks. It is comprised of microscopic strands of glass and permits data to travel over longer distances at higher bandwidths than other types of cable.
- Service Request System (SRS)
The SRS allows authorized users to place orders and view reports for ITS telecommunications and Infrastructure products and services like phone lines, phone features and more. - Telephone
While the communication industry is changing rapidly, ITS telephone services are still essential to university business. We provide services such as Zoom phone, traditional and IP voice, voicemail, operators, directory information, audio conferencing, IP fax, contact centers, and others.- Emergency Phones: ITS supports the Emergency telephones located across campus that directly connect U-M community to the Department of Public Safety & Security (DPSS). These include Blue Light Phones located throughout campus, and Red box emergency phones or buttons, located in campus parking structures and building elevators. When the telephone receiver is removed from the cradle or the button is pressed, DPSS Dispatch Services automatically receives the location and dispatches an officer to the location of the telephone.
- Television & Video Streaming
ITS Infrastructure delivers a full lineup of television channels to campus buildings, residence halls, and the Northwood Community Apartments. The Live Event Streaming service can webcast campus events in real time to viewers across campus and across the globe.
