Getting Started with Microsoft Teams

How to Access Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams can be accessed via the Teams desktop client, web client, or mobile app. The desktop client is recommended, as not all features are available across all platforms. Refer to Teams features by platform for more information.

First Steps

  1. Install the Microsoft Teams desktop client
  2. Log in to Microsoft Teams
  3. Install the Microsoft Teams Meeting add-on for Google Calendar

The add-on is not required to use Microsoft Teams, but we recommend it if you’d like to schedule Teams videoconferencing meetings in Google Calendar.

Creating and Managing a Team

When you're ready to create a new team, refer to the Create & Manage a Team step-by-step instructions or video tutorial (3 min). More information about Microsoft Teams functionality can be found on the Common Tasks page.

Microsoft Teams Training

View the recording of U-M Introduction to Microsoft Teams, a fifty-minute instructor-led training session providing an overview of Microsoft Teams functionality, including how to create/manage a team, videoconferencing meetings, and chat.

Refer to the Microsoft Teams Essentials or Microsoft Teams Quick Tips video tutorials on LinkedIn Learning for a general overview of Microsoft Teams functionality. Note that these courses are not specifically designed for the U-M instance of Teams. Your version of Teams may look slightly different, and not all Teams functionality is supported within the U-M instance.
