GitHub Pages is a static site hosting service that allows you to create a website from a new or existing GitHub repository. GitHub Pages offers three types of sites: project, user, and organization.
- Personal websites: Create a personally owned GitHub repository for your GitHub Pages. GitHub Pages is free.
- University websites: Sign up for U-M GitHub, which requires a shortcode, and create the repository for GitHub Pages within your U-M GitHub organization. GitHub Pages itself is free, but certain other U-M GitHub features you use could incur charges. Refer to GitHub at U-M Pricing for details.
ITS does not provide support for GitHub Pages websites in either case. Website owners need to rely on the GitHub Pages documentation.
