Data Den Research Archive

Data Den is a service for preserving electronic data generated from research activities. It is a low-cost, highly durable storage system, is the largest storage system operated by ARC, and is only available in a replicated format.

Data Den is not meant to replace active storage services like Turbo and Locker. It is a disk-caching, tape-backed archive best used for inactive data that is set aside for future active computing or cold storage: storing stable copies of raw data, and/or long-term retention to meet grant and policy requirements, including NIH or NSF, SPG 303.06, or for other reasons.

Inactive data must be transferred back to Turbo or Locker for processing and analysis. Data Den is best accessed through the Globus data management sharing system to move data into and out of the service, except for the rare instance where someone has an active archive volume.

Storing of sensitive data (including HIPAA and FERPA) is now supported. Visit the Sensitive Data Guide for full details.
