Locker is a cost-optimized, high-capacity, large-file storage service for research data. It provides high-performance capabilities for handling large files, enabling investigators at U-M to connect their data to the computing resources necessary for their research, including U-M’s high performance computing (HPC) clusters.
Locker is meant exclusively for research data. It is designed for data that doesn't need to be accessed frequently, such as data nearing the end of its useful life cycle. It is optimized for large files (1MB or larger), and a large number of small files should not be stored on the service without being combined in some way (e.g. using tar). The locker can be used along with the Globus data management sharing system to host and share data with external collaborators and institutions.
