Accelerating Efforts to Modernize Network Infrastructure

In FY24 the ITS Infrastructure team accelerated efforts to modernize the network infrastructure across U-M campuses to deliver high-quality services and meet the expanding needs of the U-M community.

 
 

5G Millimeter Wave technology is deploying at the highest speed and capacity connectivity at Michigan Stadium to further improve and enhance the connectivity for fans.

 

100 Gbps

is the working speed of the new core network infrastructure that is in place and working in parallel with the old network core

Campus Fiber Improvements

ITS continued to expand the fiber footprint of the university to keep up with the increasing demand for network resources. This effort is expected to keep the university’s fiber infrastructure current for 30-50 years.

MACC Data Center Network Replacement

The implementation of the new MACC Data Center network topology is in progress to create a new data center backbone.

of the 28,000 telephone lines on the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses have transitioned to U-M Zoom Phone

Cellular Infrastructure Development

Physical construction of a new U-M network fabric for future cellular technology has been completed by several ITS Infrastructure teams.

WiFi Auto Connect for U-M Guests

ITS has successfully completed a proof-of-concept for campus guests and external users to easily and securely auto-connect to the network.
