In response to the university’s approach to generative AI, the Emerging Tech Team was founded. Composed of 6 full-time employees and 6 part-time employees, the team is constantly working on new features and releases to U-M's genAI tools.

The first university in the world to release a custom suite of generative artificial intelligence tools

With a focus on accessibilty, equity, and privacy, U-M Information and Technology Services (ITS) built the suite of tools in only two months. Designed to enhance the life of all university employees, the tools have seen incredible adoption in their first year of availability.
 

DALL-E 3 Available at No Cost

In February 2024, U-M GPT was updated to include the image generator, DALL-E 3. Use of the generator is free for the university community.

Enhancing Academic Advising with Maizey: A Custom AI Tool

The LSA Newnan Academic Advising Center sought to improve accessibility and efficiency in student advising services, particularly in light of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the non-mandatory nature of advising. They aimed to offer an innovative solution that could provide immediate, reliable information to students while maintaining the option for personalized advice through human interaction.
