Wolverine Web Services Project FAQ

When will the new suite of services be available?

We are planning to make Managed WordPress & Drupal sites available first, with additional service tiers rolling out via subsequent projects.

Can you clarify the effect on existing websites?

We are early on in our design phase, but we expect websites will migrate in a seamless fashion. For websites hosted by university units (either in-house or through external vendors), as well as websites hosted on ITS Web Virtual Hosting, the website owner is responsible for migrating each of their websites. Wolverine Web Services Managed Websites will include tools and documentation for migrating websites. The website URLs will remain unchanged when the website is moved. If anything changes in the design, we will work with everyone to let them know.

What do I need to do to prepare to migrate to the new service?

Websites that will be affected the most are ones that are very outdated and running on old versions of Drupal, PHP, and WordPress. Those websites will need to be upgraded prior to migration, and if they are on very old versions, they could require some re-design work. At this time, existing websites migrating to the Managed WordPress and Drupal platform will need to:

  • Authenticate users at the web application level, not at the web server level
  • Use only HTTPS
  • Be on PHP 7.3 or higher
  • Upgrade their website to the latest version of WordPress, Drupal 7, Drupal 9, or Drupal 10.
How can I stay up to date on progress?

Please join our Wolverine Web Services Interest Group to receive updates on progress, or bookmark our project website to check for updates. When we have details about our service, we will be sure to get the word out to campus!
