The eResearch Proposal Management system (eRPM) was updated with several enhancements to version 7.2 on October 2, 2023.
Awards (AWD) Enhancements
Award Change Requests (ACR)
- For ACRs that require PI or other Investigator approvals or signatures, the status map will provide additional details on who needs to execute the applicable “Sign ACR” or “Approve ACR” activity, including the name(s) of the pending investigators.
- The "Post a Comment" activity has the ability to select Investigator(s) to Add as email recipients to notify investigators that were recently added to the Award.
Proposal Approval Form (PAF)
In PAF Worksheets, document uploaders now have drag and drop capability, which offers another method to attach required and supporting documentation. You can still click ‘Choose File’ to select manually, if desired. Note: The Proposal Documents page of the PAF does not have the new functionality.
Subcontract (SUBK)
- Subcontract activity questions and workspace messages were reworded to clarify new DoE guidelines for disclosure and COI Ancillary Reviews.
- SUBKs on DoE projects now follow the same workflow in eRPM as SUBKs on PHS projects.
- A SUBK workspace message will display “Sponsor COI Requirements Apply.”
For Central Offices
Conflict of Interest Office

Ancillary reviews on Award Modifications are now automatically requested by the system as needed. These reviews include:
- Conflict of Interest Personnel (COI Personnel)
- Conflict of Interest Regental Approval Request (COI RAR)
- Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research Oversight (HPSCRO)
- Radiation Policy Committee (RPC) for use of radioactive materials for non-human research
- Other support

On Ancillary reviews for International Engagement notifications, the email address was updated to a separate Other Support group in the COI office.

The PEERRS compliance check for IPAs was removed.
- eRPM will no longer evaluate PEERRS for Compliance Hold on AWDs/MODs when the “IPA - Intergovernmental Personnel Act” Sponsor Program Type is checked on the AWD/MOD or originating PAF.
- Sponsor Program Types can be found under the list of Special Terms & Conditions on the AWD/MOD smartform or via "Manage Special Terms and Program Types" on the PAF.
Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP)

On the ORSP - Staff workspace, Contracts Inbox tab listers were reordered; “Modifications Contracts” has moved above “Partially Signed Awards with Sponsor.”

On the ORSP Alert for PAF submission deadline day email notifications, the body and subject line text was updated to include the PR’s name.

The ability to delete investigators on an Award Modification was removed. Instead, PRs and staff should deactivate investigators when they are no longer participating on a project.
