ARC Services for Those Leaving U-M

Alumni

As a U-M graduate, you receive alumni status automatically. When your department no longer lists you as Active in Program, you will no longer be able to use the ARC computing services listed below. 

Refer to the ITS Alumni Computing Services page for a list of U-M computing services you keep as alumni.

No access

Copy only your personal data to a local device. Moving data is only appropriate for personal data, and not PHI (protected health information).

Deadline: 30 days before your last day of classes.

Storage (Data Den, Turbo, Locker)
Note: The exact timing of when you lose access to these services depends on when your U-M affiliation changes from “student” to “alum.” The timing of this change is different for each school or college. For specific information on when your affiliation will change, contact your school or college’s registrar. ITS strongly encourages you to take the steps below before the last day of classes to ensure that you have enough time to export your data before you lose access. If you need assistance, please contact the ITS Service Center.

Retirees

As a University of Michigan retiree, you will no longer be able to use some U-M computing services. Refer below for a summary of the ARC computing services you keep and lose as a retiree.

Special Circumstances

Alumni and retirees who need to continue working with ARC services and are going to be working with a Principal Investigator (PI) on campus or remotely should ask their PI for sponsored affiliate status. This allows access to ARC services through the UMVPN

Note: The exact timing of when you lose access to these services depends on when your U-M affiliation changes from “employee” to “retiree.” The timing of this change is different for each unit. For specific information on when your affiliation will change, contact your unit’s liaison. ITS strongly encourages you to take the steps below before your last day of employment to ensure that you have enough time to export your data before you lose access.
