DL Switches Upgraded in 29% of Ann Arbor Campus Buildings

The Distribution Layer (DL) Upgrade project has successfully replaced and upgraded the DL network switches in 29% of the total U-M buildings on the Ann Arbor campus, both on the Central and North campuses. Three more buildings are on the schedule to be upgraded by December 2023, and several other location replacements are in negotiations with the unit IT leadership. The project is progressing as initially planned, targeting the completion of all 193 building switch replacements by the end of 2026.

The schedule for the switch replacements, a critical part of the project, is in constant development as it depends on campus departments’ academic, research, and administrative requirements, ITS staff capacity, and the availability of new equipment. Additional replacement dates are added regularly based on ongoing discussions between the project team and IT leaders of each department. You can view the upgrade schedule including dates, whether scheduled or proposed, for your building on the  Building Status page
