Cloudflare is available to university units at no cost for eligible websites. To be eligible, all the domain names for a website must fall under domains owned by the university, including the umich.edu, umdearborn.edu, and umflint.edu domains, and/or external domain(s) (such as a .com or .org domain) registered and owned by the university. A valid university shortcode is also required in order to verify that Cloudflare is being used for legitimate university business. The shortcode will not be charged unless the unit explicitly signs up through ITS for an add-on Cloudflare service that is not included in U-M Cloudflare's Turnkey, Self Service, or Basic plans (for example, Cloudflare for Government is available via rebilling for units that require FedRAMP Moderate compliance for their websites).
The university's contract with Cloudflare includes a limited number of Self Service domains.
- One Cloudflare Self Service domain is available for each school, college, campus, and major unit. Additional Cloudflare Self Service domains require justification and approval.
- Any university unit or group can request a Cloudflare Self Service domain if they have a business need for Self Service that cannot be met by either Turnkey or Basic. These requests require justification and approval.
