What Information We Collect
U-M Mobile App collects the following personal information in these ways:
- When you directly provide it to us, like when you submit feedback via the in-app feedback form. Directly collected information may include:
- U-M uniqname
- Email address
- Name
- Content of feedback
- When technology captures your information automatically, such as when you log in and authenticate through the app. Automatically collected information may include:
- Device-level ID
- Device type
- Device name
- Crash logs
- App performance data, like load times
- Location information, only if you grant the U-M Mobile App location permission
- When third-party advertising and marketing providers, such as Google Analytics for Firebase, capture your information on our behalf. Examples of information captured by third-party service providers include:
- Timestamps
- Geographic data, like country
- Product interactions such as app launches, taps, clicks, scrolling information, or other information about how users interact with the app
- Location data, if you grant the app location permission
How We Use Personal Information
The University of Michigan uses information about your interactions with the U-M Mobile App to:
- Enable app functionality, like push notifications
- Monitor app performance, perform technical diagnostics, and make improvements to the overall user experience
- Support specific requests in real-time, such as finding nearby bus stops

Location data are processed ephemerally, stored in device memory, and are retained no longer than necessary in order to process requests

With Whom We Share Personal Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information collected here. We may, however, share your personal information in limited circumstances, such as with university partners or external service providers, such as Google, that support business activities.
We require these service providers to keep your personal information secure, and do not allow them to use or share your personal information for any purpose other than providing services on our behalf.
We may also share your personal information when required by law, or when we believe sharing will help to protect the safety, property, or rights of the university, members of the university community, and university guests.
What Choices You Can Make About Your Information
If you wish to opt out of data collection, you must uninstall the application. To do so, use the standard uninstall process of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

The University of Michigan recognizes the importance of maintaining the security of the information it collects. We strive to protect information from unauthorized access and damage, and ensure reasonable security measures are in place to keep your personal information secure.
