Getting Started with Sprout Social Service

The Sprout Social service is managed through a collaboration between the U-M Social Media team (within the Office of the VP of Communications) and ITS. In order to better understand the business practices associated with using this tool, please see the #UMSocial website.

A request for a Sprout Social license is only granted to qualified social media managers, and needs to be approved by the appropriate social media management leadership team member representing the particular U-M social communication group.

If you are interested in being granted a Sprout Social license, talk to your social media management leadership team representative, and that individual can submit a request for you to be granted access to the service.

Note: Our enterprise agreement has been set up to use a single email domain for the University, and as such, all accounts are set to use your @umich.edu email address (i.e., Michigan Medicine users cannot use a @med.umich.edu email address).

The enterprise Sprout Social tool is provided by the vendor, Sprout Social, and administered by ITS. The U-M agreement provides for:

  • Enterprise licensing for qualified social media managers from all schools, colleges, units, and campuses including Dearborn, Flint, Michigan Medicine, and Sponsored Affiliate Organizations of the university.
  • Use for the following U-M branded social media profiles: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, and YouTube.
Note: Faculty and research lab social accounts are not eligible at this time.
  • A defined list of social listeners to keep abreast of trends for U-M communicators
