Am I Eligible to Enroll?
Every researcher, on all U-M campuses, with at least one of these roles is eligible to enroll in UMRCP and receive their own set of annual ARC service allocations:
- Professors with an active appointment
- Faculty instructors and lecturers with an active appointment
- Emeritus faculty
- Guest faculty who are visiting for one to two years
- Principal investigators (PI) (e.g., research scientists) on self-funded research activities
- PostDocs with their own research grant
Any researcher with a role other than one in the above list is expected to have UMRCP resource access through eligible faculty or PI.
PhD Students
It’s expected that most PhD students will be able to access their advisor’s UMRCP resources.
Some PhD students may qualify for their own UMRCP resources, depending on who oversees their research and their advisor relationship.
If you are a PhD student seeking access to UMRCP resources, consult with your PhD program administrator to determine your eligibility before requesting access.
Undergraduate and Masters Students
Undergraduate and Masters students do not currently qualify for their own UMRCP enrollment. However, they can be added as users or administrators of UMRCP allocations via an enrolled user.
Students can access ARC resources through other ITS programs.
Step-by-step Guide to Enroll
- The enrollment form must be completed by the eligible researcher: the enrollment form cannot be completed by anyone acting on behalf of an eligible researcher, even with an eligible individual's permission.
- Researchers are able to include trusted individuals as additional project admins and can add members of their lab, research group, student researchers, or any other person they may be collaborating with who has a currently active role at U-M, as users for service allocations.
For any researcher who is eligible for UMRCP, the enrollment process will move forward by following these steps:
-
Review the Advanced Research Computing service allocation options that are available for selection: service allocation summaries.
-
Complete the UMRCP enrollment request form.
- Be sure to select each ARC service that you will need allocations for. Only the services selected in the request form will be provided to eligible researchers.
-
Eligibility for UMRCP allocations will be reviewed by the ARC team.
-
Following enrollment approval, service creation processes are started for each of the requested allocations.
-
Once resource allocation creation is complete, an email is automatically sent notifying the requestor that their allocations are ready to use.
-
Resource access can be managed by the Project Owner, or by any other designated project administrator, in the Resource Management Portal.
