Web Accessibility Scanning — Siteimprove

ITS Accessibility launched and rapidly scaled Siteimprove to significantly expand U-M’s capacity to monitor and improve its web presence. The platform provides actionable, unit-level insights that help web teams identify barriers early, prioritize fixes, and manage content at scale. The team also accelerated adoption through targeted training, consultations, and enhanced support services.

  • User Growth: Increased from 355 to 4,234 (~10× growth)
  • Coverage: Sites tracked rose from 1,471 to 3,022
  • Scale: Pages monitored surged from 98,636 to 1,573,339
  • Training: 5 sessions delivered to 338 attendees/registrants
  • Responsiveness: Resolved support tickets increased 700%, from 40 pre-launch to 320 cumulative tickets in the first six months

Canvas Accessibility — Panorama

The team expanded Canvas support via Panorama, enabling instructors and students to improve teaching and learning environments. Panorama provides institution-wide scanning, instructor remediation tools, and alternative formats to foster inclusive course experiences across all U-M campuses.

  • Reach: 38,662 total users across Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn
  • Volume: 4,466,454 files scanned in Ann Arbor (May 2025–May 2026)
  • Inclusivity: 49,216 alternate formats generated for students
  • Progress: Overall accessibility score improved from 50% to 61%
  • Impact: Nearly 40,000 remediations completed, with activity more than doubling between January and March 2026
  • Enablement: 30 training sessions delivered

Document Accessibility in Google Workspace — Grackle

ITS Accessibility continued scaling everyday document support through Grackle, allowing the university community to audit Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets directly within their existing workflows. This integration builds a culture of inclusion by embedding accessible content creation into daily campus practices.

  • Adoption: 1,663 U-M community members accessed Grackle tools

Digital Accessibility Support — Ticket Reach & Responsiveness

Direct assistance across all digital offerings increased significantly, helping more community members resolve issues month over month. This trajectory reflects deepening campus awareness, engagement, and trust in these services.

  • Monthly Impact: People helped via resolved tickets grew from 18 to 173
  • Velocity: Nearly 10× growth in support reach, with sustained month-over-month increases throughout FY26

Digital Accessibility Web Presence — ITS Accessibility Website

The ITS Accessibility website was optimized as a centralized hub for guidance, tools, training, and self-service support. Strong engagement metrics demonstrate its value as an active resource center, empowering users to take independent action.

  • Annual Traffic: 176,000 views and 48,592 active users over 12 months
  • Engagement: 509,000 total interactions (clicks, downloads, video starts, form submissions)
  • Momentum: The last 6 months alone generated 123,000 views and 350,000 interactions

Training & Support Enablement

The team maintained a robust, multi-channel training program featuring workshops, office hours, drop-ins, and tool-specific sessions. These efforts scaled practical knowledge to match rising campus demand.

  • Total Capacity: 57 training and support sessions offered
  • Consultations: 20 office hours sessions delivered
  • Panorama: 20 training sessions and 14 drop-in sessions hosted
