Getting Started With U-M Mobile App Publishing

Prior to publishing, you are required to complete the following:

  1. Submit Request to Publish off of U-M Developer Account
Email [email protected] with the following information:
    • Name and purpose of the mobile app
    • Required capabilities (e.g., push notifications)
    • Pricing model (free or paid)
    • Commercialization plans
    • Development phase
    • Name of the developer
    • Is this a student led project? If so, it is not owned by U-M and cannot be published under the UM Developer Account.
  2. Submit an Invention Disclosure Form with Innovation Partnerships
All mobile applications, whether developed with outside partners, purchased from third party vendors, or developed internally require an invention disclosure form for tracking and management purposes. This form collects information on the purpose of the app, names of the contributors, funding, commercialization plans (if applicable), etc.
    • To submit the required invention disclosure form, select “Submit your Innovation” on Innovation Partnerships site.
    • Note: If you have not previously submitted this form before (and therefore not received login credentials), then you will need to contact [email protected] to request access first.
  3. Designate Team Roles
Identify your App Manager and Developer(s) (internal or external to U-M).
  4. Complete the Mobile App Publishing Responsibility Agreement
Review and sign the Mobile App Publishing Responsibility Agreement. This will be shared via SignNow to complete.
  5. Request Access to Storefronts
To gain access to the storefronts, send the email addresses and assigned roles to [email protected] for App Store Connect and Google Play access setup.
    • App Store Connect: Ensure your umich account is setup as your Apple ID. If not, submit a ticket to the ITS Service Center to get it configured.
    • Google Play: Provide either your personal Gmail account OR create a new Gmail account specifically for your app.
  6. ITS will create the shell for the app in the storefronts and grant access to the applicable roles. Once this is complete, you will receive a notification.
  7. Now You Have Access!
    • The App Manager can fill out details about the app (i.e. description, category, privacy policy), upload screenshots, etc.
    • The Developer can upload build files.
    • For App Store Connect, the ITS WeMoAD will share the signing certificate and push key (if applicable) via Dropbox.
    • For Google Play, the Developer can use their own signing certificate.
