Overview
The VMware Academic Software Licensing Program supports the use of virtualization applications in teaching and research. The program provides both desktop and infrastructure software for personal use, whether as part of STEM classes, in research projects, or for gaining hands-on experience with VMware products. Applications are provided at no cost to end users, with UmichITAM being responsible for covering the program's operational costs through an annual subscription fee. Titles include:
- VMware Workstation
- VMware Fusion
- VMware vSphere
- VMware vCenter
- VMware vSAN
- VMware NSX-T-LE
- VMware vRealize
- VMware Tanzu Basics

U-M faculty and students.
Staff is eligible only if directly supporting instruction or noncommercial research.
Access
Broadcom offers VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion for free to faculty and students for noncommercial use. Follow the steps in this KB article to download.
