Overview of Repositories & Mirrors

Repositories are centralized locations where software packages are stored, managed, and distributed. They are essential for ensuring that software installations and updates are consistent and secure.

Mirrors are duplicate servers that host copies of the main repository. They help:

  • Improve download speeds by geographically distributing servers.
  • Provide redundancy to prevent downtime.
  • Distribute network load among multiple servers.
