Transitioning to Okta

Effective February 25, 2026, the University of Michigan has transitioned to Okta, an industry-leading identity management platform. This transition enhances the sign-in experience and improves security for the U-M community. New capabilities, including passwordless sign-in options such as Face ID, Touch ID, and Windows Hello, enhance the user experience while protecting university accounts from ever-evolving cybersecurity threats.

Enroll your UMICH account in Okta today. You can also see Okta Help page for additional resources.

Changes to your UMICH Account

Effective February 25, 2026, users will experience key changes to the sign-in and multi-factor authentication experience with the transition to Okta..

  • An Okta sign-in screen has replaced the former Weblogin screen.
  • Okta Verify has replace Duo for multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • When signing in to access U-M web resources, you will see the URL “okta.umich.edu” in the address bar in your browser.
  • A new, optional passwordless sign-in experience called Okta FastPass is available (Okta FastPass is not available to Michigan Medicine users).
  • A new annual sign-in requirement for all UMICH accounts has been implemented to help reduce the security risks associated with inactive accounts.
Note: Do not remove or delete the Duo app just yet! You need to use Duo until at least February 25, and some users may need to continue to use Duo for SSH and RDP after the February 25 transition.

If you also use Duo as an authenticator for any personal (non-UMICH) websites or services, you can continue to do so. Note that ITS cannot assist you with setting up MFA for non-university services. Contact the service provider if you need assistance.
