We are excited to begin fully supporting Windows 10 starting in January 2017. The newest operating system has many benefits, including an improved user interface, enhanced security, and the Windows App Store. Neighborhood IT leadership will begin meeting with unit contacts in January to discuss possible impacts for each unit.
Between January and April, we plan to support Windows 10 on at least 200 machines. This soft launch will give the MiWorkspace support teams time to identify and address concerns early. In addition to offering it to the MiWorkspace Windows Beta Testers, we hope to install the new operating system on a representative sample of computers. During this time we will also upgrade all Surface Pro tablets supported by MiWorkspace and discontinue support for Windows 8.1. Testing for special use cases, including classroom computers, kiosks, and digital signage, will also begin at that time.
After the soft launch period ends in April, Windows 10 will be the default operating system for all new and rebuilt MiWorkspace Windows computers. This upgrade approach gives Neighborhood IT an opportunity to meet personally with faculty and staff who will be upgrading their operating system, ensuring the process goes smoothly and all concerns are addressed.
