Global computer impact

7/19/2024

Dear U‑M Community,

As many of you may be aware, there is a global computer outage related to a CrowdStrike update on Windows machines that is impacting several areas of U‑M operations.

  • Technical issues at University of Michigan Health may cause delays in trying to connect with their services. Michigan Medicine operations are continuing with no cancellations to procedures or appointments at this time. All Health Information Technology resources are fully dedicated to restoring full functionality as quickly as possible.
  • Some faculty, staff, and units using Windows may be experiencing issues with logging into their computers this morning.

ITS is actively working to resolve the issues on the machines and servers it manages. Desktop/laptop systems that were off or in sleep mode should not be affected, however desktop/laptop systems that were running overnight may be stuck in a reboot loop and you will need assistance.

Any impacted U‑M staff and faculty should contact their normal unit IT representatives for support. If you are a UM‑Ann Arbor faculty and staff supported by MiWorkspace and are experiencing problems with your Windows PC, please reference the Resolve CrowdStrike Boot Loop - July 19 Knowledge Base article.

Updates will be posted to the ITS status page. Currently, there is no estimated time on when the issue is expected to be fully resolved.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

With gratitude,

Ravi Pendse
Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
