mFile/Cyberduck Comparison

ITS will be permanently shutting down mFile and recommending that users use Cyberduck, an SFTP client, to access their files in AFS instead. However, there are important differences in feature availability and functionality between mFile and Cyberduck. See below for a chart that outlines how the two tools compare.

mFile Cyberduck
Download individual files from AFS to computer. Download single files, multiple files, or entire folders with everything inside them from AFS to computer. This includes synchronization and drag and drop for transfer.
Upload individual files from computer to AFS. Upload single files, multiple files, or entire folders with everything inside them from computer to AFS. This includes synchronization and drag and drop for transfer.
Allows viewing files directly in the web browser. Files must be downloaded and then opened in order to be viewed or modified.
Works on any device that has a web browser (including mobile devices and Chromebooks). Windows and Mac only. (SFTP clients are available for most other types of devices, but may require payment and are not supported by ITS.)
Can manage AFS file sharing permissions. Can not manage AFS file sharing permissions; use the ITS Login Service for this.
Limited to AFS storage connections. Connects to AFS, Google Drive, and Dropbox, as well as other systems that support SFTP.
Allows website creation actions via the website tab in mFile. Allows website creation via the "make-webspace" command over SSH.
Can view a set of permissions for a folder in AFS. Not able to view or change AFS folder permissions.  Instead, use SSH to connect to the ITS Login Service and view/change permissions by typing commands.
