Friend accounts have changed as of February 25, 2026!
A Friend account is a U-M guest computing account created for a non-UMICH email address. If you don't have a U-M uniqname, a Friend account enables you to sign into the U-M computing environment.
There are many U-M services that Friend accounts cannot use (for example, Friend accounts do not receive UMICH email addresses and cannot access U-M Google services or Zoom).
Some services may be requested. For example, parents/guardians can access their student's university billing statements and financial aid data on Wolverine Access if the student authorizes them to do so.
Effective February 25, 2025, you must sign in at least once every 12 months to keep your Friend account active.
