What We Do
The Tech Repair Service provides low-cost assistance to U-M individuals and departments on campus.
We offer maintenance services for most brands of computers:
- Virus remediation and software troubleshooting
- Software installations, including operating system upgrades
- Hardware upgrades and installations (RAM, hard drives, network cards and more)
- Data transfers and data recovery
We can provide hardware repair and support for both personally owned and university owned computers and computer equipment.
Warranty repairs for Apple (including iPad and iPhone), Dell, HP, Microsoft Surface, and devices covered by Safeware can usually be done at no cost to you. We can also perform out-of-warranty repairs on these and other major brands. See our repair page for more information.
Need help troubleshooting common issues like wireless access or installing anti-virus software? We offer drop-in consulting services at both our Central and North Campus locations. In many cases, connectivity and software issues can be resolved at these locations at no cost.
Tech Repair will update their service rates beginning July 1, 2022. The new rate will be $96 per hour; flat rate services will also be adjusted on a prorated basis. Hardware checked in for service on or after July 1 will be billed at this new rate.
This rate update will only impact out-of-warranty service. Services covered under warranty and accidental damage claims covered by Risk Management will not be affected by this change.
Tech Repair currently offers service by appointment only. Walk-up service is not available at this time.
