Learning Management System Transition Team (2 Student Positions Available)

Be part of a high-energy student team supporting users in the transition away from CTools and UM. Lessons learning management systems. As of Fall 2016, Canvas replaced CTools course sites, and ITS will be supporting campus in continuing to migrate CTools projects sites to existing alternative collaboration tools (e.g., U-M Google, U-M Box). The ITS Teaching and Learning group needs smart, detail-oriented students to migrate data and help faculty, staff and students with the transition to the new services to work 10-20 hours a week. We offer flexible schedules, a relaxed work environment, and even a treadmill workstation for you healthy-minded folks.


  • Migrate course and project site materials from CTools and UM.Lessons to Canvas and other systems. Troubleshoot issues
  • Interact with faculty, staff and students across all schools/colleges to answer questions about Canvas, U-M Box, and Google collaboration
  • Create documentation and materials for internal and external use
  • Assist with other technology projects as time allows
  • Provide your valuable insights from the student's perspective

Skills Required

  • Excellent ability to focus on details and maintain high-quality work while processing customer migration requests
  • Excellent communication skills (in-person and written) and a friendly, can-do attitude
  • Creative troubleshooting and analysis skills
  • Works independently and demonstrates judgment on when to escalate issues
  • Knowledge of the U-M computing environment Experience using CTools and/or Canvas is a plus

Work Schedule

10–20 hours per week during business hours (Monday–Friday, 9–5)

Start Date: 5/1/17–5/15/2017
End Date: 6/30/2017 (there may be the opportunity extend to 8/31/2017)

Hourly Rate

$12.50/hr. to start

Work Location

This position may require travel across the U-M Ann Arbor Campus and some work with the ITS Teaching and Learning group at the Boyer Building on South Campus (near the football stadium). All locations are served by the U-M buses.
