High Speed Connections for Buildings

Standard building Ethernet connections across campus are 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps). Buildings typically connect to the network core at 1 or 10Gbps.

Note: To determine the current connection speed for your campus building, refer to Campus Building Network Connections.

Researchers requiring more than 1Gbps will require custom networking installation work be performed on a time and materials basis. For more information about the installation activities required and estimates for these connections, see our Rates & Billing page.

Researchers requiring more than 10Gbps connections should contact the ARC Research Connections group to learn about other high speed connectivity options and funding on campus.

Michigan Medicine units and the Dearborn and Flint campuses are not currently on the university core network. If researchers on these campuses need high speed connections, ITS can assist them in determining if it’s possible to get higher network performance in their locations.
