Fixed Wireless

Fixed wireless connections provide connectivity to the campus Core Network from an off campus location within roughly a mile of campus.

ITS installs a radio on a campus building which is connected to a single core network router via outside plant fiber optic cable. A second radio is installed at the off campus location and connected to an Ethernet switch via inside plant fiber optic cable. The connection uses unlicensed frequency to provide 1Gbps speeds.

ITS can:

  • Install and test fixed wireless connections including hardware, power, and fiber paths.
  • Maintain, support, and repair connections.
Note: The installation design must meet the approval of the University of Michigan Exterior Design Elements Review Committee (EERC) for campus buildings and City of Ann Arbor and landlord guidelines for off campus locations.
