Interior Cellular - Distributed Antenna System (DAS)

ITS works collaboratively with the Division of Public Safety & Security, Facilities & Operations, Architecture, Engineering, & Construction, and Health Information & Technology Services to design, bid out, install, commission, and support distributed antenna systems (DAS) that provide public safety radio and cellular coverage in U-M buildings.

The ITS role is primarily to provide technical consultation that ensures an up-to-date AEC cellular phone signal reinforcement (CPSR) design standard prior to any project, conduct collaborative design review of submitted bids to ensure that obsolete technology is not deployed and that carrier acceptance is likely, provide technical expertise that optimizes the U-M spend and vendor relationship during bid/install phases, deliver network infrastructure to support DAS deployment (e.g. fiber, IP networking), manage the business relationship with the cellular carriers (including which frequencies carriers deploy), provide ongoing support for U-M owned DAS installations, and alert U-M stakeholders to network/technology changes that will cause their DAS infrastructures to become obsolete or require augmentation.
