DNS (Domain Name System), the "phonebook" of the Internet, is not secure by its original design — DNSSEC adds a level of security to DNS while maintaining backward compatibility and scalability. This is particularly helpful in preventing the misuse/theft of digital financial information like credit cards or tax data, intellectual property, mail exchange records, and other sensitive information.
