10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Connections

High speed 10 GbE connections to the university core network to researchers and units on the Ann Arbor campus.

Standard building Ethernet connections across campus are 1 GbE from the Ethernet jack to the telecommunications closet to the building Distribution Layer Switch (DLS). Standard DLS connectivity to the network core is 1 or 10 Gigabytes per Second (Gbps).

Note: To determine the current connection speed for your campus building, refer to Campus Building Network Connections.

Researchers requiring more than 1 GbE will require custom networking installation work be performed on a time and materials basis. For more information about the installation activities required and estimates for these connections, see our Rates & Billing page.

Researchers requiring more than 10 GbE connections should contact the ARC-TS Research Connections group to learn about other high speed connectivity options and funding on campus.

University Health System Units and the Dearborn and Flint campuses are not currently on the university core network. If researchers on these campuses need high speed connections, ITS can assist them in determining if it’s possible to get higher network performance in their locations.
