Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)

The Network IPS sits at the border between university networks and the internet, protecting networks from malicious traffic coming from outside the university. The IPS provides advanced threat detection and allows the university to extend protection to its wireless networks.

The campus IPS provides:

  • Adaptive security and state-of-the-art protection against advanced and evolving network threats.
  • Flexible protection through dynamic security which uses behavior analysis instead of statically defined rules.
  • Mobility for wired and wireless devices, even when off-site, through the use of the campus virtual private networks.

ITS is using the HP TippingPoint IPS product, model S7500NX. It is updated with signatures to address the latest threats using a subscription feed provided by the vendor.
