Television Options for On-campus Residents

As of July 2017, television service is not offered in traditional residence hall rooms, including Northwood III. Cable television is available in select residence hall lounges and Northwood community centers.

Campus residents can use the wired and wireless data networks to connect to video services of their choice. This page describes some online alternatives for individual viewing.

Philo Internet Television

Members of the university community can log in at umich.philo.com to view 25 local broadcast channels including the major broadcast networks. Philo can be viewed on most computers, tablets and smart phones, or by using a Roku streaming device connected to a television set. Read more about supported devices and browsers. Philo is only available when connected to networks on the Ann Arbor campus. See our Philo website and channel lineup for more information.

Live TV Streaming Services

Numerous services offer subscription-based access to live cable, premium, or international channels. This is not a comprehensive list, and these services are not endorsed or supported by the university. See each service's website for more information. For information on using common streaming devices on campus networks, see our Device Compatibility Guide.

On-Demand Streaming Services

Many free and for-fee services provide access to recorded television, movies, and other content. This is not a comprehensive list, and these services are not endorsed or supported by the university. See each service's website for more information. For information on using common streaming devices on campus networks, see our Device Compatibility Guide.

Cable or Satellite television are not an option: Because of facility limitations, residents are not able to order cable service to their apartment or room through cable providers. They are also not able to subscribe to satellite providers, as these require outdoor antennas which may not be installed on residence buildings.
