VoIP Technical Specifications

Unit phone administrators or technical experts may find the following resources helpful when adding or transferring to IP telephones.

Feature Requirement Notes
Cisco or Juniper Switch Recommended that the closet switch support IEE Power over Ethernet standard 802.3 (af or at)
  • Ensures phones do not need local power.
  • Phones are protected from power outages due to closet switches having UPS.
Ethernet Port Office computers and IP phones generally can share a data line without additional configuration.
  • Select an IP phone with two Ethernet ports.
  • In scenarios where a separate data line is needed for an IP phone, units can select an IP phone with a single Ethernet port.
Network IP phones connected to an ITS controlled VLAN will need to acquire configuration settings from the ITS DHCP server. QOS parameter will be enabled on network components to support IP voice traffic.
Unit Firewalls ITS VLAN voice traffic will not pass through unit firewalls. No configuration change is needed on unit firewalls for hardwired IP phones.

No configuration change is needed on unit firewalls for hardwired IP phones.
Client Access Unit firewalls are required to allow access to ITS Voice Server.
